Man beaten up by wife’s family over demand to pronounce triple talaq

Kottakkal: A newlywed man was brutally beaten up in Malappuram by his wife’s relatives for not agreeing to their demand to pronounce triple talaq. Abdul Aseeb, a native of Kottakal, alleged that he was abducted by his wife’s relatives before being brutally beaten.

The marriage of the couple was held one-and-half month back. But after a quarrel with Aseeb, his wife returned back to her home. Following these events, the relatives of the woman met Aseeb and demanded a divorce settlement. According to Aseeb, her relatives resorted to rowdyism after he refused to comply with their demands.

He alleged that he was beaten and threatened by a group of seven people, including his wife’s close relatives. Aseeb added that they even tried to threaten him with acid attack.

While Aseeb claims he only had slight difference of opinion with his wife, his relatives alleged that he brutally tortured his wife.

The police have taken three people into custody in connection with the incident.  Further, a search is on for other members.

Meanwhile, Aseeb is currently undergoing treatment in Kottakal, Malappuram after sustaining serious injuries.
