Youth slits 17-year-old girl’s throat in Varkala, held

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 20-year-old youth was arrested for allegedly killing his friend by slitting her throat in Varkala. The victim is 17-year-old Sangeetha, daughter of Sajeev and Shalini of Sangeetha Nivas at Vadasserikonam in Varkala. The police have taken into custody her friend Gopu of Pallikkal. The two were in a relationship earlier and her alliance with another youth is suspected to be the reason for him to take the extreme step. She was a first year degree student of Sree Sankara College.

The accused reached her house around 1:30 am and called her on the phone and asked her to come out. Sangeetha, who was sleeping with her younger sister, came out and reached the road nearby. A verbal dispute broke out between the two. In the meanwhile, Gopu slit her throat with the knife he had in his hand.She went inside screaming and then closed the door. Her parents came out hearing the noise and found her lying in a pool of blood. Though the locals took her to the hospital, she was declared dead by then.
