NEW DELHI: An Indian, who was working as a security helper of the Russian army in the war against Ukraine, was killed in a missile attack, a report said. The deceased is 23-year-old Hemil Mangukia, a native of Surat, Gujarat.
Hemil’s relatives said that they came to know about his death on February 23. A person named Imran, a native of Hyderabad, who was with Hemil, informed the family about the death at 6 pm on February 23. According to the message, Hemil was killed in a missile attack in the war zone. Imran told the family that Hemil died on February 21. Hemil had talked to his father over the phone a day before his death. He had told his father that he was fine and was working as a helper in the Russian army.
Hemil applied for the security job in Russia after coming across a YouTube video. After getting the information that his job was guaranteed, Hemil went to Moscow via Chennai. He was then recruited as a helper in the Russian army.
There were reports that around 12 Indians who went to Russia in search of work were stranded in the war zone of Russia. The central government later said that efforts were being made to bring those Indians back. The central government has clarified that the Indian Embassy in Moscow is in touch with the Russian authorities and the Indians will be brought back.
