THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthapuram Latin Archdiocese is observing a betrayal day as part of the Vizhinjam port strike. The betrayal day is being observed on the anniversary of the Okhi disaster. As part of it, candles will be lit in the homes coming under the archdiocese, in memory of those died in the Okhi tragedy. There will also be special meetings under the leadership of various organizations. A general meeting will be held today at the siege pandal in Mullur.
Meantime, Vizhinjam is on high alert taking into account the chances for further clashes in the area. More policemen have been deployed in the area.
In the wake of the clashes, the Latin archdiocese had strongly criticized the actions of the police at the all-party meeting held the other day. The meeting held at Thiruvananthapuram Collectorate under the leadership of Minister G R Anil to discuss the issue ended inconclusively. Minister G R Anil informed that the representatives of the political parties who attended the meeting demanded the implementation of the project. Meantime, the striking panel did not respond favorably. When all the parties condemned the incidents, the striking panel responded that it was a natural reaction to the police action.
