Tharoor receives warm welcome in TVM; says he was first to demand Arya Rajendran’s resignation

Thiruvananthapuram: Shashi Tharoor MP received a warm welcome upon his return to Thiruvananthapuram after completing his tour in the Northern parts of Kerala. There is an ongoing tussle between Tharoor and state party leadership and there is no restriction on Congress leaders, workers or others from attending any event involving Tharoor.

Tharoor, facing flak from state leadership, attended a protest event organised by Congress against Mayor Arya Rajendran and alleged appointment letter row in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. While speaking at the event, he openly criticized the LDF government, state home department and police. He also dismissed criticism that he was late to attend the ongoing protest in the state capital.

“I take a decision after examining every aspect of a subject. In connection with the protest in Thiruvananthapuram, I had earlier sought the resignation of the Mayor. However, I was not able to attend the Thiruvananthapuram protest in person due to a hectic schedule,” he said.

He started speaking at the event claiming he was the person who first intervened in the controversy surrounding Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. This was a befitting reply to opposition leader VD Satheesan’s remark against Tharoor about his lack of involvement in the ongoing protests in Thiruvananthapuram.

Youth Congress vice-president KS Sabarinath, Palode Ravi, N Sakthan, Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) state secretary AA Aziz and other senior leaders attended the event.
