Kochi: The district administration has brought in strict regulations in Ernakulam district amid the surge in COVID cases in the district.
The test positivity rate in the district during the last 7 days stands at 30.77 percent and 35,250 people have been tested positive of covid. The police are trying to bring strict curbs in the wake of the rapid surge in cases.
Police have blocked border points with barricades and people are allowed to enter only after checking. Checking is also intensified inside the district. Kochi Police commissioner C H Nagaraju informed that violators of covid protocol will be dealt strictly. Travel will be allowed to only those people working in the sectors which were given exemption in the lockdown rules put out by the state government.
Police will enforce inspection of vehicles strictly and violators will be punished. Police may also resort to seizing the license of the vehicle owners or filing FIR for repeat offence.
