Speaker suspends 12 MPs from AP for obstructing proceedings; LS adjourned for day

Newdelhi: The Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar today suspended 12 members of the House for obstructing the proceedings on Telangana issue. Eight members are from the Congress and remaining four from Telugu Desam party.

Mrs. Kumar named the members under Rule 374(A) of the House proceedings which empowers the Speaker to automatically suspend a member for five consecutive sittings or the remainder of the session, whichever is less.

Reading out the members’ name, Mrs Kumar asked them to leave the place immediately and adjourned the House for the day.

Earlier, the House witnessed two adjournments on the same issue. Our Correspondent reports that the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mr. Kamal Nath yesterday moved a motion under Rule 374 to suspend ten members from Andhra Pradesh for continuously disrupting the proceedings.

The Rule required voting in the House for adopting the Motion, but it could not be adopted due to pandemonium.
