Kochi: In yet another political twist ahead of the Assembly polls in Kerala, Congress leader K. V. Thomas has decided to meet the high command team at Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday.
The move comes at a time when speculation was rife that the former union minister and MP would join the Left front ahead of the election. Thomas was expected to attend a press conference on Saturday during which he was expected to reveal the decision.
However, Thomas met the media at his residence here on Friday night. He revealed that Senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy and Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala had called him over the phone in the evening and asked him to meet the high command team on Saturday.
“Congress president Sonia Gandhi called me and asked me to meet the high command team at Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday. I have so much respect and gratitude to Sonia Gandhi that I will obey any instruction from her without complaint,” said Thomas.
He denied reports that he had been offered the KPCC working president post. Answering a question, Thomas said that he does not know who was among the high command team he is expected to meet on Saturday.
Thomas clarified that he had not demanded any position in the party or for the election. The Congress leader however admitted that several false allegations and baseless media reports had hurt his sentiments and it led to him staying away from political activities.
The move is considered as an end to speculations that K. V. Thomas would join LDF ahead of the Assembly polls.
