Sits outside twice daily, hears reading newspaper, son on VS’ health as he hits century

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Senior CPM leader and former chief minister V S Achuthanandan fondly known as VS, turned 100 today. Dr V A Arun Kumar, IHRD director and son of former chief minister V S Achuthanandan, reveals about his father’s health. Talking to Kaumudy TV, Arun Kumar said that as the doctor has strictly instructed to see that VS does not get infection, birthday celebrations attended only by family members will be there.‘At the time he was paralyzed, his right leg and hand were affected. The condition of his right hand has improved but his right leg is still the same. So, he needs help to walk. His life style is according to that now.

He sits outside in the morning and evening, will read the newspaper, hears when it is read, watches news in TV. Will talk a bit. He can hear and understand things. There is a home nurse to look after him. My wife and Asha’s husband are doctors. They are at home. Neurosurgeons will come home and examine him. There is no difficulty in that and infection is not in our control. After Covid, there was a situation where he was admitted in ICU due to major infections. The doctors advised us to see that he does not get any infection. As you get older, your health deteriorates. If gets any infection along with it, it will be a big complication. My father was always in the midst of party people. Life without it is difficult for everyone,’ said Arun Kumar.
