Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the online registration for Covid vaccination was interrupted due to shortage of vaccine in the state. Currently, there are only 3,68,840 doses of vaccine available in the state, he added.
‘We requested the Centre for 50 lakh doses of vaccine due to the shortage. This was asked before the Centre declared its new vaccine policy. Many people asked why we should want such a huge amount of vaccine. But we requested for a large number of doses so that it would not affect the online registration,’ the CM said.
Currently, vaccination can be scheduled only one day before the available slot. The slots are fully booked in a very short period. The issues in online registration can be resolved only if sufficient amount of stock is available. Opening separate counters for senior citizens also is under consideration, the CM added.
