SFI’s challenge: Governor Khan refuses to relent, to camp at Calicut University guest house

Thiruvananthapuram: Governor Arif Mohammed Khan has taken up the challenge posed by the SFI activists who said that they would prevent the Governor’s access to college campuses in Kerala. The Governor is expected to arrive in Kozhikode from New Delhi on Saturday. Initially, he had initially scheduled to stay at the Governor’s guest house but he decided to shift to the Calicut University guest house instead.

This has put the police under pressure as security measures of a Z plus category need to be offered to the Governor while the student organisation affiliated with the ruling party stands against him. On Friday, under the leadership of the Intelligence ADGP, a meeting of top police officers is being held to assess the security arrangements for the Governor.

When SFI activists were nabbed for their mid-road protest against the Governor, flimsy charges were levied on them. After the Raj Bhavan expressed displeasure and the ‘double standards’ became news, the activists charged under a special section. Meanwhile, the police force also came under the spotlight as allegations were raised as to how the Governor’s travel route was known to the protestors.
Reports suggest that central forces like the CISF might take charge of the Governor’s security detail if such protests against him continue. This decision to change the security detail can be taken by the Union Home Affairs Department. But if this happens, it may become a stain on the state police’s reputation.
