Thiruvananthapuram: Police on Tuesday morning arrested Youth Congress (YC) State president, Rahul Mamkootathil, in connection with the Secretariat protest against police highhandedness during Nava Kerala Sadas.

Cantonment police arrested him from at his residence at Adoor, in Pathanamthitta. He will be quizzed at Thiruvananthapuram

YC on December 20 had organised a march to the Secretariat in protest against the attacks on its and KSU activists. It turned violent with workers of the youth outfit of Congress and the police clashing with each other.
Opposition leader and UDF chieftain VD Satheesan is the first accused in the case. Shafi Parambil (MLA), and M Vincent (MLA), have also been booked.
They are accused of attacking the cops and being involved in the destruction of public property. Police have slapped non-bailable sections of IPC and the police act.
