Search resumes for Philippines ferry victims

Philippines: Philippines rescuers are battling rough seas after resuming their search for 85 people still missing in the country’s latest ferry disaster. Thirty-four people are confirmed dead.

The ferry, carrying more than 800 passengers and crew, sank after colliding with a cargo ship on Friday evening near the central city of Cebu.

The captains of both vessels have been taken into custody by maritime authorities for questioning. Stormy weather forced an early suspension of search operations on Saturday, and similar conditions frustrated rescuers when they returned to the waters early this morning.
