‘Rahul constantly repeating mistakes’; setback for Congress leader in defamation case, no stay in case

AHMEDABAD: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has received a setback in the defamation case against the ‘Modi surname’ remark. The Gujarat High Court on Friday upheld the Sessions Court’s order and denied a stay on his conviction in the defamation case. The verdict was pronounced by the bench headed by Justice Hemant M Prachak. With the court refusing to issue a stay, Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification as MP will continue.

The court, which stated that the verdict against Rahul Gandhi was appropriate and that there was no need for the court to interfere in the case, added that Rahul was constantly making mistakes. It observed that there are more than 10 criminal cases in his name.

Meanwhile, the Congress is gearing up to approach the Supreme Court against the High Court verdict. AICC general secretary KC Venugopal said that the Congress is not surprised by the appeal getting rejected and that it does not expect justice from Gujarat in the present.
