NEW DELHI: President Droupadi Murmu has nominated author and social activist Sudha Murthy to the Rajya Sabha. This was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through X. Prime Minister noted on X that Sudha Murthy’s presence in the Rajya Sabha is a powerful testament to our ‘Nari Shakti’.
Sudha Murthy, who was awarded the Padma Shri by the country in 2006, is the wife of Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy and the former chairperson of the Infosys Foundation. She was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2023.
Sudha Murthy started her career as a computer engineer. She is also the first woman Computer Engineer at Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (Telco). Her children are Akshat and Rohan. Infosys Foundation was started in 1996. She worked as a visiting professor at the PG Center of Bengaluru University. Sudha also taught at Christ College. She held the posts of Chairperson of Infosys Foundation and Fellow of Gates Foundation. She has acted in two films.Childhood life and experiences contributed to Sudha’s first work ‘How I Taught My Grandmother to Read’. She wrote 2 travelogues, 6 novels and 3 educational books and has won many awards.
