Population of wild tuskers, tigers declined in past 5 years: Kerala Forest Minister AK Saseendran

Kozhikode: In a worrying development, Kerala Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran stated on Friday that the number of wild elephants and tigers in the state has declined in the state.”In the last five years, 1402 wild elephants and 36 tigers have died. Only 1920 wild tuskers are left now, down from 3322 in 2017. In the meantime, there are just 84 tigers, down from 120 in 2018,” the minister said.Earlier this year, a date released by PM Narendra Modi revealed that the tiger population in India was 3,167 in 2022.

According to the data, the tiger population stood at 1,411 in 2006, 1,706 in 2010, 2,226 in 2014, 2,967 in 2018, and 3,167 in 2022.
