NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court said that the police force should not act as moral police. The apex court made the observation while upholding the dismissal of the CISF constable who stopped the bike carrying a youth and his fiancee, and misbehaved with them. It was also found that the constable had accepted bribe from the couple.
The bench headed by Justice Sanjiv Khanna said that taking advantage of the situation and demanding material and physical gratuities was a serious mistake and strict action should be taken against such policemen. The apex court, which quashed the Gujarat High Court’s order to reinstate the policeman, observed that the High Court erred.
