Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh left Moscow this morning for Beijing after completing his two day successful Russia visit. Our Correspondent covering the Prime Minister’s visit reports, five agreements and MoUs were signed after a four hour long summit and delegation level talks at the Great Kremlin Palace.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Russian President Vladimir Putin have expressed their commitment for deepening the Strategic Partnership for Global Peace and Stability. In a joint statement issued after the 14th India Russia Annual Summit, both leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to implement the Enhancement of Cooperation in Oil and Gas Sector agreement signed in 2010. Both sides affirmed the need to join efforts of all states to defeat terrorism. They condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and agreed that there should be no tolerance for sheltering, arming, training, or financing of terrorists.
Welcoming increasing business interactions, the two sides agreed that investment collaboration was an important component of economic cooperation, which could also help in increasing bilateral investment and trade.
India has high expectations from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to China. A number of agreements in the areas like trade, economy, culture and people to people contacts, are expected to be signed after talks Dr. Singh will have with Chinese leaders. Border Defence Agreement is also likely to be given final touch during the visit. Our correspondent reports that this is Dr. Singh’s second bilateral visit to China. The last visit took place in 2008. This will also be his second meeting with Chinese Premier Liee Keqiang who had visited India in May this year Besides meeting the President Xi Jinping and holding talks with the Chinese Premier, Dr. Manmohan Singh will also address the Chinese Communist Party Central School where future leaders of the party are imparted training.
Earlier in a written interview to China’s official media ahead of his three-day visit Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that commitment by the Indian and Chinese leadership to maintain peace and tranquillity at borders pending boundary settlement is an important guarantor for further progress in Sino-Indian ties. He said, the boundary question between India and China is complex and sensitive and the Special Representatives (SRs) mechanism has been established to find a political solution. Dr. Singh said, the SRs have worked hard and arrived at political parameters and guiding principles for a boundary resolution. He said, this is an important guarantor and a fundamental basis for further progress and growth in our bilateral ties. The leadership of the two countries are united on this issue, he said emphasising the need to maintain peace at the borders.
