Thiruvananthapuram: Though CPM and Left front are determined to counter the Governor politically over the developments related to the Kannur varsity row, the government will probably try for a balancing act to avoid administrative-level discord.

The state government is likely to postpone the move to curtail the powers of Governor in appointing the vice-chancellor to state universities despite the tussle between Pinarayi Vijayan regime and Governor Arif Mohammad Khan escalating.

It may be noted that the cabinet has already approved the bill. However, at this juncture, pushing the bill in the Assembly session starting August 22 may turn provocative. That is why it is widely speculated that the matter will be pushed in the next Assembly Session slated for October.

It is learnt that the government will push bills including Lok Ayukta in this Session, while the provocative bill diluting Governor’s powers will be tabled along with Higher Education Commission reforms during the October Session. The state government is of the stand that if the Governor is provoked it may dampen priorities in this session.

The equation between the Pinarayi Vijayan regime and the present governor Arif Mohammad Khan has gone through aberrations and tussles. Khan did not assent 11 ordinances, including Lok Ayukta Act amendment, and the validity expired on August 8. This also will make the assembly session a neck and neck contest between Pinarayi Vijayan regime and Governor Arif Mohammad Khan.
