Periya double murder: State govt spent Rs 90 lakh to block CBI probe

Pathanamthitta:  As per RTI information, the government had spent Rs 90,92,337 to engage in a legal battle in the Kerala High Court to challenge the verdict of handing over the Periya double murder case to the CBI. Babuji Esho, KPCC executive committee member, said in a press meet that Rs 88 lakh was given to the 3 advocates who have appeared in the case during different stages, as per the information received through RTI.

Rs 60 lakh was given to a senior counsel Maninder Singh.  The advocate had appeared in the court for 4 days and expenses relating to air travel, accommodation, food and other miscellaneous expenses amount to Rs 2,92,337. The High Court single bench handed over the double murder case, where youth Congress activist Sarath Lal and Kripesh were killed in Periya on February 17, 2019, to the CBI.
