‘Only an agency outside Kerala can prove the case’; why is govt opposing, asks Vandana’s father

KOTTAYAM: Mohandas, father of Dr Vandana Das, said that he has some doubts regarding the death of his daughter. Talking to the media, he said that he does not understand why the government is strongly opposing the CBI probe. The high court had the other day rejected the plea to hand over the investigation to the CBI. Mohan Das met the media following that.

‘Me and my wife had appeared in the court twenty times in the last seven months in connection with the case. There are some doubts regarding our daughter’s death. So far had not responded against the government or the investigation but there is strong opposition from the side of the government. The plea was filed after knowing that only an agency outside Kerala can prove the case.

Senior police officers including the ADGP appear in the court and strongly oppose it. There is no social and political organization to support us. Why is the government opposing this? The fact that my daughter did not get treatment for four and a half hours was also concealed. We will appeal again in the division bench,’ said Mohan Das.

The court had also reviewed that there is no rare situation in the case. Sandeep is the only accused in the case. There is no finding against the officials. A charge sheet was also submitted in the case. The court also observed that there is no need to interfere in the investigation. 106 witnesses were examined and the final report was submitted on the 89th day after a thorough investigation. Apart from the lapses on the part of the police standing near Sandeep, the petitioners could not point out any serious flaws in the investigation. The court observed that no criminal intent was alleged for the failure of the police to protect the public from the attack of the accused.
