KOTTAYAM: NSS General Secretary G Sukumaran Nair said Congress leader Shashi Tharoor was invited to Mannam Jayanthi to correct the mistake of calling him a Delhi Nair. Tharoor is not a Delhi Nair but a son of Kerala and a citizen of the world. In his welcome speech, Nair said that he does not see anyone as qualified as Tharoor to inaugurate Mannam Jayanthi.

‘I am very happy to be here. Mannam had said that one Nair can’t stand another Nair. He said that 80 years ago. However, I am experiencing that now in politics. I have come to Perunna earlier also. This is the first time participating in the Mannam Jayanthi meet,’ said Shashi Tharoor MP.

Meantime, senior Congress leaders were not invited to today’s function. A K Antony had attended the Mannam Jayanthi celebrations ten years ago. After that, this is the first time the NSS is inviting a Congress leader to the meet.

G Sukumaran Nair has been estranged from opposition leader V D Satheesan for a long time. Nair had publicly criticized Satheesan in harsh language two months ago. Satheesan’s statement that he did not win with the help of the community had angered Nair. He had also warned that if continues with this approach will face dire consequences.
