Changanassery: The Nair Service Society (NSS) has sharply criticised the LDF government over using Mannathu Padmanabhan’s name to impress voters.
NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair slammed the government for its double standard of supporting and ignoring the great social reformer according to its needs.
In a statement of NSS, the association criticised an article published on Deshabhimani daily, the mouthpiece of CPM.
“NSS and Mannathu Padmanabhan’s followers have realised the double standard of the LDF government. Everyone can understand the political rivalry behind it,” criticised Sukumaran Nair.
“The government inaugurated the Guruvayur Satyagraha memorial on May 8, 2018. But the government did not remember Mannathu Padmanabhan during the event or add his name in the memorial. It is really unethical and deliberate negligence towards the great reformer,” alleged the NSS general secretary.
A social reformer and freedom fighter, Mannathu Padmanabhan, played major roles in Vaikkom Satyagraha, Savarna Jatha, Guruvayur Satyagraha, temple entry protest and anti- untouchability agitations, pointed out Sukumaran Nair.
He also remembered Mannathu Padmanabhan’s effort to establish NSS, which established schools, colleges and other institutions for the upliftment of the poor.
“He was a social reformer who voiced against superstitious beliefs, evil practices and discriminations in society. But he was not against religious customs,” added Sukumaran Nair in the press statement.
