Mandatory for government employees to wear handloom clothes on Wednesdays

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister P Rajeev said in the assembly that government employees should wear handloom clothes every Wednesday. There was an earlier suggestion in this regard but it was not followed. MLAs should also wear handloom clothes on Wednesdays. The industry was given a major boost by making school uniforms from handloom clothes. Government institutions should give priority to handloom when purchasing such products. Speaker MB Rajesh clarified that handloom will be given priority when buying sheets and other items in the assembly.

Minister Rajeev said 75 new Khadi showrooms would be set up in the state. State-of-the-art showrooms, including stitching, alteration, laundry facilities and parking will be launched. An international standard exhibition centre will be set up in Kakkanad to find markets for products in the MSME sector.
