Man surrenders before police, claims he is behind Kalamassery explosion

Kochi: Barely hours after several explosions rocked a regional conference of a religious group in Kalamassery, Kerala ADGP (law and order) MR Ajith Kumar said that a man has surrendered at a police station, claiming he is behind the blast that took the life of an unidentified woman and injuring several others.

“One person has surrendered in Kodakara Police Station, in Thrissur Rural, claiming that he has done it. His name is Dominic Martin. He claims that he belongs to the same religious group (Jehovah’s Witnesses: JW). We are verifying it. We are looking into all aspects of this case… All concerned agencies, including central agencies, are in place, and we are looking into it…,” said ADGP.
When asked by reporters whether the incident was an outcome of intelligence failure on the part of the police, the ADGP said that all branches of the force were functioning effectively.
Meanwhile, a video purportedly released by a person has surfaced on social media, confessing to the Kalamassery explosions. In the video, it can be heard that he has a 16-year-long association with JW. However, it’s unclear whether the person in police custody is the same person in the video.
On the other hand, JW has claimed that it has no association with Martin. However, JW maintained that a person holding the same name had once approached them. But, JW is not sure whether it is the same person and they are probing it internally.
