Madhupal ropes in Tovino Thomas for a murder mystery
Filmmaker Madhupal has always chosen daring subjects based on true incidents for his directorials – be it Ozhimuri or Thalappavu. His upcoming movie, Oru Kuprasidha Payyan, too follows the same trend and is inspired from several real-life murder cases in Kerala “that has shook the conscience of the people”.

The director has roped in Tovino Thomas and Nimisha Sajayan as the protagonists of the murder mystery, which will go on floors on Saturday.

On the movie, Madhupal says, “The film is about a murder investigation. In our country, if one fine day, the police declare that someone is the culprit even without sufficient proof, the people are forced to believe it. So, any person can get framed for any crime these days and that’s the thread we are trying to explore in the film.”

The filmmaker had earlier planned to do a movie based on the murder case of 70-year-old Sundariamma in 2012 where an orphan was framed as the culprit. In 2014, the court acquitted the accused and found the police guilty of perjury.

The upcoming movie though will not just be based on that case, says Madhupal. “A lot of real-life murder cases in Kerala have served as inspiration for the story,” he says, adding that Jeevan Job Thomas has scripted the movie.
