Lankan Navy arrests 32 more Indian fishermen

Sri Lankan Navy has arrested 32 more Indian fishermen for violating the international maritime boundary and fishing in Lankan waters early today morning. The arrests were made after 4 fishing trawlers were captured near Mullaitivu and the fishermen are being taken to Trincomalee for being handed over to local police.

The island navy had arrested 37 fishermen from Tamil Nadu earlier in the week. The remand of 23 fishermen who were arrested last month was also extended by the Sri Lankan Magistrate’s court in Kayts Island and the total number of Indian fishermen in Sri Lankan custody now stands at 92.
