Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has informed that the state government will purchase vaccine directly from the manufactures without waiting for the share from the central government.
“We have requested the centre to supply enough stock of the vaccine. I hope they will take a decision on this matter. Since time is precious, we have set the ball rolling to procure vaccines. Even while we wait with expectancy for a positive reply from the Centre, if we wait endlessly, we might not be in time to get the supplies from the manufacturers. If it comes from the centre, well and good,” said the Chief Minister.
At the same time, he pointed out that the state government will purchase vaccine as per the policy of the central government.
The state government has already initiated talks with the vaccine manufacturers for direct purchase. Chief Secretary, finance secretary and health secretary will hold talks and give order to sufficient stock of vaccine, informed the CM.
“The vaccines that the state government procures will be for use in state-run health centres, while the private sector can buy their requirements,” he added.
The Chief Minister also informed that clear guidelines will be put in place to avoid confusion over the vaccination. The vaccine will be administrated to people above 18 years from May 1.
According to reports, 1.65 cr people belong to this age group are residing in Kerala. The government plans to vaccinate this group in two or three phases. Priority will be given to people suffering from ailments. An expert committee is appointed to prepare a set of guidelines after conducting a detailed study in this regard, informed Pinarayi Vijayan.
At the same time, he expressed concern over the surge in daily COVID cases.
Observing the rush in vaccination centres, the CM asserted that only those who registered online will get the vaccine. At present, the health department has decided to give the vaccine to those who have booked via spot registration. The CM informed that vaccination schedules will be rearranged based on the available stock.
