Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala on Monday reported 27,487 COVID cases and 65 deaths, informed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan while addressing the media.

The test positivity rate was recorded at 27.56.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Thiruvananthapuram- 3,494, Malappuram- 3,443, Thrissur- 3,280, Ernakulam- 2,834, Kozhikode- 2,522, Palakkad- 2,297, Kollam-2,039, Alappuzha- 1,908, Kannur- 1,838, Kottayam- 1,713, Kasaragod- 919, Pathanamthitta- 450, Idukki- 422 and Wayanad- 328.

A total of 99,748 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

In total, 1,71,33,089 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.

None returned from the UK, South Africa and Brazil tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. So far, 125 people including 115 UK returnees, 9 from South Africa and 1 from Brazil tested positive for the virus infection. 122 of them have recovered from the disease. So far, 11 patients have been infected with the mutant virus strain.

The death toll mounted to 5,879 with 65 new fatalities.

255 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 24,815 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 2303 patients remains unidentified.

The district-wise statistics of contact cases: Thiruvananthapuram- 3,231, Malappuram- 3,253, Thrissur- 3,249, Ernakulam- 2,699, Kozhikode- 2,419, Palakkad- 811, Kollam- 2,028, Alappuzha- 1,906, Kannur- 1,617, Kottayam- 1,589, Kasaragod- 886, Pathanamthitta- 415, Idukki- 407 and Wayanad- 305.

114 health workers also tested positive for COVID-19. Among them, 45 were from Kannur, 14 from Ernakulam, 12 from Thiruvananthapuram, 11 from Kasaragod,9 from Thrissur, 7 from Wayanad, 5 each from Kollam and Palakkad, 4 from Pathanamthitta and 2 from Malappuram.

Meanwhile, 31,209 recoveries were also reported in the state.

The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram- 2,696, Kollam- 2,280, Pathanamthitta- 431, Alappuzha- 2,071, Kottayam- 2,054, Idukki- 376, Ernakulam- 3,999, Thrissur- 2,076, Palakkad- 3,526, Malappuram- 3,694, Kozhikode- 4,995, Wayanad- 383, Kannur- 1,803 and Kasaragod- 825.

With this, the number of active cases touched 4,19,726 in the state. Till date, 15,04,160 people recovered from the disease.

9,89,991 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this 9,56,932 are under home/institutional quarantine and 33,059 people are in hospitals. 3,580 people were taken to hospitals on Monday.

2 more places were added to the list of hotspots while two regions were removed from the list. Currently, there are 798 hotspots in the state.
