Kochi: In a setback for governor Arif Mohammed Khan, the Kerala High Court on Friday accepted the state government’s plea challenging the appointment of Prof Ciza Thomas as the vice-chancellor in-charge of KTU against the recommendation of the government.
The court accepted the plea pointing out that there are legal issues prima facie and the government has the right to question the appointment made by the governor. Following this, the governor sought time to give his response.
In the plea, the government has sought the cancellation of the temporary appointment of the Technical University vice-chancellor as it is illegal. The plea was heard by Justice Devan Ramachandran.
The court has sought response from all parties, including UGC, by next Wednesday. The case will be heard again on Friday. The court has also sought names recommended by the government for the vice-chancellor.
Ciza Thomas, senior joint director of the Directorate of Technical Education, was given the charge of vice-chancellor by the governor after rejecting the government’s recommendations.
