New Delhi: Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated on Thursday that errors in the NEET examination were confined to a specific region. However, he assured that stringent action would be taken against any NTA official if found guilty.
The high-level committee to review and improve the functioning of NTA would be notified soon, the minister said in a press conference.
Pradhan also urged everyone to refrain from spreading rumours and politicising the recent NEET examination controversy. He emphasised that the government is committed to safeguarding students’ interests.
“I appeal to my opposition colleagues not to politicise this issue. Our government is committed to transparency. Regarding the NEET exam, we are coordinating with the Bihar government. We are receiving updates from Patna. The police are investigating, and a comprehensive report will be submitted by them,” he explained.
Pradhan also announced the formation of a high-level committee aimed at improving the National Testing Agency’s operations. However, he underscored that the recent NEET paper leak, described as an isolated incident in Bihar, should not unfairly impact the sincere efforts of the lakhs of students who participated in the exam.
About the cancellation of the UGC-NET examination for selection of junior research fellows, assistant professors and PhD scholars, Pradhan said the exam paper was leaked on Darknet.”Let us have faith in our systems and no irregularities or malpractices will be tolerated by the government,” he said.

About 24 lakh aspirants appeared for the NEET on May 5 for admission to medical colleges. The results were announced before time on June 5, but were marred by allegations of paper leaks and the awarding of grace marks to over 1,500 candidates.
As many as 67 students scored a perfect 720, unprecedented in the NTA’s history, with six from a centre in Haryana’s Faridabad figuring in the list, raising suspicions about irregularities. It has been alleged that grace marks contributed to 67 students sharing the top rank.
The NEET-UG examination is conducted by the NTA for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country.
