ISIS recruitment row: CPM silent on Jayarajan’s explosive revelations

KANNUR: CPM observed stoic silence on P Jayarajan’s revelation about more youngsters falling for extremist ideologies and getting recruited to ISIS from Kerala. While CPM evaded a response on the issue, pro-BJP handles on social media came with tacit support to Jayarajan. Meanwhile, the Catholic Church openly came out in support of the CPM leader.

P Jayarajan had expressed concern about youngsters of Kannur getting influenced by extremist ideas and showing a willingness to join organisations like IS. In his new book titled ‘Muslim Politics and Political Islam’, Jayarajan ponders over the dangerous environment created by Jamaat-e-Islami and Popular Front in Kerala.

He also mentioned that four youths from Kannur were killed in an encounter in Kashmir’s Kupwara. The Solidarity movement demanded the government clarify its position on P Jayarajan’s statement regarding IS recruitment from Kerala.

“Jayarajan and his comrades have learned nothing from history and are trying to make the most of the existing environment of Islamophobia. It is also a dire attempt to lure back their comrades, who all are now ready to jump ship to Sangh Parivar,” said Solidarity.

Meanwhile, the Catholic Church publication on its front page expressed high hopes about someone with the stature of P Jayarajan showing the guts to unveil the extremism happening in Kerala. The publication blamed Islamic extremism for creating a conducive condition for religious sectarianism to grow in Kerala.

The publication also dared CPM to call out extremist organisations following Jayarajan’s revelation.
