HC quashes plea seeking CBI probe into letter row at T’puram Corporation

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The High Court has rejected a plea filed by a former councillor seeking a CBI probe into the letter controversy at Corporation. The state government told the court that there was no need for a CBI investigation. Considering this argument, the court quashed the plea and directed the government to go ahead with the crime branch investigation.

The plea alleges that Mayor Arya Rajendran has sent a letter to the district secretary of CPM asking for the list of temporary appointments in the Corporation. The plea adds that this is an incident that puts the state government on the defensive and the police will not be able to bring out the truth about the letter controversy. Citing these reasons, the plea seeks to hand over the probe to the CBI.

Meanwhile, the opposition struggle in the letter controversy continues. A municipal council will be held today at 2.30 pm. The general council held last time and the special council called to discuss the appointment controversy had turned ugly following the opposition strike. The decision of BJP and UDF is to strengthen the protest in this council, in which standing committee chairman DR Anil, who is accused in the row, will participate along with Mayor.
