NEW DELHI: The governor is in charge of functioning of universities and no one can interfere in the activities of the universities illegally, Governor Arif Mohammed Khan said while talking to the media in Delhi.
The governor said not a single ordinance of the government came to him till he left for Delhi. He said that he cannot respond to something that he has not obtained. It is everyone’s duty to respect and obey court orders. This is not a personal fight. No personal animosity towards anyone. As a chancellor, is totally upset, he said.
There was strong political involvement. The governor is in charge of the administration of universities and the elected government is in charge of the administration. The Supreme Court and the High Court have clarified the stand regarding any interference in the activities of the universities. The governor said that he should act within his jurisdiction and the government in theirs. Everyone has the right to protest but will never succumb to pressure. Despite repeated promises, political interference continued. The chancellor is in charge of the affairs of the universities across the country. The governor said that he is ready to resign if one instance where he has intervened in the affairs of the government is pointed.
Universities cannot be turned into departments of the ruling party. Not thinking about individuals, but about the students of Kerala. They are leaving Kerala for higher education. Although school education in Kerala is good, the state of universities in Kerala is not. The governor said that he is not alone saying that political involvement is powerful. Don’t let anyone think that you can get things done by applying pressure. The chief minister was asked to explain about the unsigned bills, but no one came. This is continuing. Hundreds of illegal appointments have taken place in the universities of Kerala, the governor alleged.
