Fousiya Hasan acquitted in ISRO spy case, dies

COLOMBO: Fousiya Hasan (80), the Maldivian woman, who was acquitted in the ISRO espionage case, died here Wednesday. She died of a heart attack in Sri Lanka. She has been living in Sri Lanka for a long time. She was active in Maldives film industry for more than 35 years. Fousiya was the second accused in the case of leaking ISRO secrets. She was jailed in Kerala from November 1994 to December 1997 and was later acquitted.

Fousiya was born on January 8 in 1942. She studied in Mali Aminia School and Colombo Polytechnic (Sri Lanka). She started her official career as a clerk in the Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1957. She was the censoring officer at the National Film Censor Board of Maldives from 1998 to 2008. She has also acted in hundred films.
