Fine of Rs one crore will be imposed if Aadhaar is misused

NEW DELHI: A decision has been taken to impose a fine of Rs one crore if Aadhaar is violated. It is an offense to hack the details of Aadhaar and giving someone else’ biometric information. As part of this, a law authorizing the Unique Identification Authority has been notified. The rules have been notified by the IT Ministry in accordance with the Aadhaar Act passed by the Parliament in 2019.

With the rules coming into force, the authority will be able to appoint officials to monitor the violations. An officer in the post of joint secretary to the central government will be appointed to take action on violations and resolve grievances. It may also order confiscation of property of those who do not pay the fine. Before taking action, a show cause notice must be given and the accused must be given an opportunity to explain.
