THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police have arrested Divya Jyothi, the first accused in the Travancore Titanium job fraud case. It was the Venjaramoodu police that took Divya into custody on the complaint of a Pirappankode native who accused Divya of embezzling Rs 14 lakhs native in 2020 by promising a permanent job as a chemist. Divya admitted that she received a total of Rs 1.5 crore from several people.Police said that the other 4 accused in the case are absconding. The other accused are Divya’s husband Rajesh, Titanium Legal Manager Sasikumaran Thampi, Prem Kumar and Shyam Lal.
Divya, who is on remand, will be taken into custody. The police are planning to arrest the rest of the accused after gathering evidence and discovering how the money was handed over to them. Divya had received the money from candidates through bank accounts.
The investigation in the case was dragging on even though the Venjarammoodu police registered the FIR on November 22. The investigation was speeded up after it was reported that the Cantonment police registered a case on the complaint of a Kottakkakam native. Although the Cantonment police had registered a case on October 6, the complainant complained to the City Police Commissioner that the investigation was ineffective and efforts were being made to destroy the evidence. Following this, the investigation was handed over to a special team headed by Poojappura SI.
However, only an interrogation took place since Divya Jyothi had secured an anticipatory bail in the case registered by the Cantonment police. She did not seek anticipatory bail in the case registered by the Venjarammoodu police as she thought that there would be no effective investigation. Many individuals came to the Cantonment and Poojapura police stations to lodge their complaints once the incident came to light. It has been alleged that some political leaders were involved in the fraud.
