KANNUR: With intentions to put the controversy to rest, Kannur SI P P Shameel came up with his side of explanation in the verbal spat which occurred between him and M Vijin, MLA of Kalliasseri. According to MLA’s complaint, he was insulted by the police officers during the Kerala Government Nurses Association (KGNA) protest at the Collectorate that was held on Thursday.
Shameel said he failed to recognise the MLA and mistook Vijin for another protestor. The SI also explained that the Mike was seized because it was banned in the Collectorate premises. The SI gave his statement before ACP TK Ratnakumar, who is investigating Vijin’s complaint.
Meanwhile, the MLA said it was an attempt from the SI to cover up the security breach and reiterated his call for strong punitive action against the officer. A report submitted blamed Shameel for triggering an issue by breaching the protocol of MLA Vijin. It is also reported that the police failed to provide security during the march organized by KGNA.
SI Shameel did not impose any kind of security measures in connection with the march. An adequate number of women police should have been sent to the march in which many women were participating. However, the report also points out that the duty officer was not ready to send a single woman police officer to the spot.
