Evidence against Vijay Babu obtained from two places; move to confiscate passport

KOCHI: City Police Commissioner C H Nagaraju said there is prima facie evidence against producer and actor Vijay Babu in the case of sexually abusing an upcoming actress. Scientific evidence was obtained from two places where searches were conducted. Search has to be conducted in more places. His presence and information of exploiting the victim have been understood in the places where a search was conducted following the complaint. Prima facie the crime has been proved. It is clear that he had tried to influence and control the victim, said Nagaraju.

Other women have not yet lodged a complaint against Vijay Babu. If there is a complaint, it will be examined then. Meantime, the police have issued a lookout circular to trace actor Vijay Babu. The action is considering the possibility of the actor to flee abroad. Police said a raid would be conducted at the actor’s flat in Kochi. The police will file a plea demanding to confiscate his passport. The aim is to stop his move of fleeing abroad if he has not left.

The police had registered a case against Vijay Babu on the complaint of the actress. Another case has also been registered against him for disclosing the name of the complainant via Facebook live. Although the complaint was lodged on April 22, the case was registered only on Tuesday. He was charged with rape and causing serious injuries. The girl complained that she was sexually harassed multiple times after promising roles in films.

Police said Vijay Babu is absconding and an investigation has started. However, Vijay Babu denied the allegations and said that he is in Dubai and anyone can contact him. The actor who disclosed the name of the survivor said that he is the real victim in a Facebook live. He said the case for disclosing the name of the survivor will be faced and has the WhatsApp chats proving the relation between the two.
