Emperor and Empress of Japan arrive in New Delhi

The Emperor and Empress of Japan have arrived in New Delhi on a six day state visit to India this evening. The dignitaries were received by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and his wife Gursharan Kaur at Indira Gandhi International airport.

Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko will meet Indian top leadership during their stay in Delhi. They will meet President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Mohd Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and discuss bilateral relations.

Japan is India’s largest source of aid and plays a key role in infrastructure development, financing projects like Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, and Bangalore Metro Rail Project.
