Election narrative: Congress in attack mode as EP Jayarajan puts LDF in a pickle

Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress is on the offensive, seeking to capitalize on recent remarks by LDF convenor EP Jayarajan regarding BJP candidates. The apparent aim is to gain an advantage in the political narrative as Lok Sabha elections loom.

Jayarajan faces a setback after giving a ‘good certificate’ to BJP candidates. The Congress-led UDF is capitalizing on this moment. Seeing the CPM caught in the nets they’ve laid, they’ve raised the issue of Jayarajan’s involvement in a resort partnership.
From the outset, the LDF planned to propagate the idea that the Congress is gradually aligning with the BJP. This notion gained traction with Padmaja Venugopal’s defection to the saffron party.
Furthermore, the left camp gained ground when the Chief Minister highlighted the alleged silence of Congress MPs, including Rahul Gandhi, on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).Jayarajan’s remarks praising BJP candidates and suggesting the electoral battle would be between the LDF and the BJP have backfired. The UDF has interpreted this as LDF preparing to cede ground to the BJP in Kerala. Recognizing the danger, the Chief Minister and CPM State Secretary MV Govindan swiftly distanced themselves from Jayarajan’s remarks.
Meanwhile, the Congress has ramped up accusations against Jayarajan. Allegations concerning Jayarajan’s Vaidekam resort were previously raised within the CPM. He attempted to address this by removing his relatives’ from the ownership of the enterprise. Later, Niraamaya Retreats, a wellness luxury hospitality brand linked to BJP leader and Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar, took over the management of the Vaidekam.
