ALAPPUZHA: The turning point in the incident of killing the 60-year-old Rosamma by hitting her on the head with a hammer was Rosamma’s friend Elizabeth from Thumpoly coming to her house in search of her. Elizabeth informed Suja, Rosamma’s niece and former panchayat member, after she went to Rosamma’s brother Benny’s house and did not get any information. Suja went to the family house to inquire about the matter but did not see any change in Benny’s expression. Suja returned from there on Sunday evening saying that if Benny does not complain that Rosamma is missing, she will.
Benny came to Suja’s house around 7 am on Monday and asked her to rescue him. Suja informed the Alappuzha North police after this. Benny confessed to the murder after being taken into custody from the Chettikkad area.
The close relatives and locals came to know about the murder only when the police team reached the spot with the accused at around 2 pm. Benny lived in the family home and Rosamma lived in her own house next door. The body was found near the family home. After covering the body with soil, holobricks were stacked on top, and soil was placed on top of it again. The police also suspect that Benny, a mason, was preparing to concrete this area. District police chief Chaitra Teresa John said that more things will be clear only after the post-mortem
