Deadly drone attack near PM Netanyahu’s residence in Israel’s Caesarea

a concerning incident, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that three drones infiltrated Israeli airspace from Lebanon, one of which struck a building in Caesarea near Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence.

The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office has confirmed that an attack drone was launched at Prime Minister Netanyahu’s residence in Caesarea. According to the IDF’s tweet, both Netanyahu and his wife were not at the location, and no injuries were reported.

The drone “hit a structure in the area of Caesarea” without causing any casualties, the military said, without elaborating. It added that two other drones were intercepted.

“A UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) was launched toward the prime minister’s residence in Caesarea. The prime minister and his wife were not at the location, and there were no injuries in the incident,” Netanyahu’s office said in a statement.

The military said three drones had been fired from Lebanon on Saturday and it had intercepted two.

A barrage of projectiles were fired from Lebanon into northern Israel on Saturday, with sirens blaring across northern Israel at regular intervals.

Lebanese authorities meanwhile said two people were killed in an Israeli strike on Saturday in Jounieh, north of Beirut, in the first strike on the area since Hezbollah and Israel started trading fire last year.

While sirens were activated in the Glilot area, the IDF reports no casualties. The situation is under investigation, and two of the drones were intercepted before reaching their target. The IDF is continuing to assess the incident, emphasizing that there is currently no further threat to the area.

Iran’s Khamenei says Hamas will survive after Sinwar death

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Saturday that Hamas was alive and will survive despite the death of its leader Yahya Sinwar in an Israeli military operation in Gaza.

“His loss is certainly painful for the resistance front” against Israel, “but it will not end at all with the martyrdom of Sinwar”, Khamenei said.

The Palestinian Islamist movement “Hamas is alive and will remain alive”, he said in a statement.

Sinwar “was the shining figure of resistance and struggle”, Khamenei said in his first remarks on Sinwar — seen as the mastermind of the October 7, 2023 attacks on Israel that sparked the Gaza war — since he was killed on Wednesday.
