Cyclone Biparjoy: Two people killed in Gujarat. 22 people injured; power supply damaged in 940 villages

AHMEDABAD: Two people were killed as a result of Cyclone Biparjoy, which is wreaking havoc in Gujarat. Several trees were uprooted following heavy rains and strong winds blowing at a speed of 115-120 kilometres per hour. The power supply was disrupted in several regions after electric poles were damaged in strong winds. The roofs of the houses were blown away by the strong winds in some areas. The tides rose more than three metres. Electricity supply was completely cut off in 940 villages. Many animals also died.

It is reported that many places in the state are still receiving heavy rain. It is raining heavily in Mundra, Jakhau, Koteshvar, Lakhpat, and Naliya. Wind speed is also high in these regions. The wind speed is expected to reach 85 kilometres per hour by noon today. After passing through Saurashtra and Kachchh regions, Biparjoy will reach the Pakistan coast near Karachi.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel visited the State Emergency Operations Centre and assessed the impact of the disaster. He also held discussions with top officials. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assessed the situation in the state with Bhupendrabhai Patel over the phone.
