Cyclone Asani likely to hit Andhra-Odisha shores; Kerala to receive incessant rains

Thiruvananthapuram: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that low-pressure area formed over Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm and reach the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha shores by Sunday. It is expected that the cyclone might not affect Kerala.

However, in the next five days the state might receive incessant rains, IMD informed. It is expected that rain gauges in the states will witness an increase of 75 per cent.

If cyclonic storm is formed, it will take the name ‘Asani’, given by Sri Lanka. The word Asani in Sinhala language can be translated as wrath. This might be the first cyclone formation of the year 2022. The peculiarity of Asani is that cyclone is capable of hitting a speed of 100 Km/hr.
