Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has revised the room rent that can be charged by the private hospitals for Covid treatment.

The hospitals which do not have NABH accreditation and less than 100 beds can charge rent as stated below:

• General ward – Rs 2645
• Room with two beds – Rs 2724
• AC room with two beds – Rs 3174
• Private room – Rs 3703
• AC private room – Rs 5290

The hospitals which do not have NABH accreditation and between 100 and 300 beds can charge rent as stated below:

• General ward – Rs 2645
• Room with two beds – Rs 3678
• AC room with two beds – Rs 4285
• Private room – Rs 4999
• AC private room – Rs 7142

The state government had issued an order on June 16 stating that the private hospitals can decide the room rent. As the high court criticised this move, the state revised rate to stop the private hospitals from charging huge amount from the patients as room rent.

The private hospitals informed the court that they will charge the revised room rent for 6 weeks and then will inform the government in case of any grievances. They also requested the court that a final decision on this matter should be taken only after they approach the court after this period.
