Kochi: Ernakulam Sessions court here on Friday upheld the findings of the Crime Branch against actor Dileep over destroying evidence in the actress attack case. Dileep and his friend Sarath are booked for tampering with evidence in the case. After examining the Crime Branch’s further investigation report, the court observed that the charges related to the destruction of evidence against the duo will remain before the law.
The court said the charges under section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) and 204 (destruction of electronic record or document to prevent its production as evidence) under the IPC were made out against the actor and his businessman-friend Sarath.
These charges were invoked against them by the police in an additional charge sheet filed by it in July this year after carrying out a further probe into the 2017 case based on certain revelations made by director Balachandra Kumar.
The court will slap the charges against Dileep and Sarath on October 31. Dileep and Sarath have been asked to appear before the court on the day.
The court issued the order after dismissing a plea moved by Dileep and Sarath. In the plea, they argued that charges of tampering with the evidence will not stand before the court. But the court dismissed the plea and upheld the findings in the further investigation report of the Crime Branch.
Dileep is facing charges including sexual assault in the case. Crime Branch claimed that Dileep received the visuals of the actress attack. In the investigation report, the probe team cited that Dileep and Sarath had deleted these visuals, related WhatsApp chats and other documents from their phone.
