Thiruvananthapuram: Christians across the country are observing Palm Sunday today which marks the beginning of the holy week before Easter Sunday. Churches across the districts held Palm Sunday service by distributing palm leaves to the believers. Palm Sunday is observed to commemorate Jesus Christ’s entry into Jerusalem before he was crucified.
Devotees with fresh cut palm leaves in hands took to the streets following Covid protocol doing prayers and singing hymns. Due to Covid restrictions prevailing, many people did not crowd on streets.
Prayers and Palm Sunday services were held in almost all churches in morning itself. Archbishops led the service and a separate facility was set up for distribution of palm leaves. Many churches have taken to online facility to webcast the programme to the faithfuls.
From Sunday till Easter Sunday special masses would be held with the most important ones on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.
