Child missing case: Court grants anticipatory bail to 5 accused, Anupama withdraws habeas corpus

Thiruvananthapuram: The First Class Additional District Sessions Court here on Monday has granted anticipatory bail to five accused, including Anupama’s mother in relation to the child missing case.

The court directed that if the police record the arrest, then the accused are eligible for bail on a bond of Rs 1 lakh. Meanwhile, the prosecution argued that the evidence could be destroyed if the court grants anticipatory bail to the accused.

However, Anupama’s mother and others claimed that the baby was handed over to Andhra Pradesh based couple to be brought up safely. Earlier, Anupama had filed a complaint alleging that the baby was abducted from her. But, she didn’t include the claim in her affidavit filed before the family court.

The police have been carrying out an investigation based on Anupama’s complaint. In her complaint with the police, she alleged that her parents abducted her baby and added that the accused produced forged documents.

Meantime, Anupama has withdrawn a habeas corpus petition filed in the high court seeking the release of her child. The Kerala High Court has declined to interfere in the habeas corpus petition filed by Anupama S Chandran seeking directions to the police to produce her one-year-old child before the court and hand the baby to her. Following this, Anupama withdrew her petition.
