The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will introduce Open Text Based Assessment (OTBA) system for students from next academic session 2013-14. Under the open book system, students will be informed four months in advance about the study material on which the examinations will be conducted.
It will first begin for students of 9th and 11th classes. The main reason behind implementing the new system is to strengthen students’ analytical and theoretical skills by moving away from the existing practice of memorisation.
Talking to AIR, Chairman, CBSE, Vineet Joshi said, the study material has been released for all main subjects including English, Hindi, Mathematics, Science and Social Science for 9th class and geography, economics and biology for 11th class examinations from March 2014.
